The Somes Sound 12 1/2 is a
lapstrake version of a picnic boat originally designed by
Nat Herreshoff in 1902. Herreshoff was a famous designer of winning America's Cup boats in the late 19th early 20th Century. His Hereshoff Haven,
carvel built, was a very popular design, and known as "the biggest little boat".
John Brooks of Brooklin Maine, modified the design to lapstrake construction, and now sells full-scale plans for the Somes Sound 12 1/2.
